Many instructors may know about the importance of making accessible course content, but may not be sure where to start. IT Accessibility is pleased to announce the Accessibility in the Curriculum (AIC) certificate – a self-paced program allows instructors to develop personalized accessibility training and workflows tailored to the instructor’s discipline and the tools they are familiar with. This program open to instructors, staff and graduate students who have served in the role of primary instructor of a Penn State course section.
The Accessibility in the Curriculum (AIC) certificate can be earned by completing several small projects to improve accessibility in the instructor’s own courses. For Penn State faculty and staff, the AIC certificate will also be an option to earn recognition within the Penn State Provost Endorsement program (see the AIC listing in the Teaching and Learning track).
Steps for the certificate include completing one the Introduction to Accessibility Learning Path course (mandatory) while developing a customized training plan based on your course accessibility audit. Additional steps include submitting an accessible syllabus file, testing and finding accessible content from another source, and submitting an accessible file or media item you made.
The final piece is a reflection allowing you to review your progress and challenges and consider next steps. The program includes one on one consultation with IT Accessibility as well as a chance to interact with others in the program.
